I can’t imagine a more magical place during the holidays than Washington D.C.—and I lived in NYC through a couple winters, too! The entire city is decked out in a cloak of magic, and there’s greenery, Christmas tree and lights around every corner.
We stayed at the Fairmont Washington D.C. in Georgetown, which boasts the only Santa Suite in town (guests with kids can book a time to stop by, see Santa, get their photos taken and soak up the holiday spirit of this gorgeously decked-out space).
It also has an ice skating rink, decorations galore, a holiday tea service and—my favorite part!—a hot chocolate bar (and mulled wine for the parents).
From there, we walked all over town to see the National Christmas Tree, the City Center DC (with a real igloo!) and a bevy of Christmas markets, such as Wunder Garten. Zoo Lights, the U.S. Botanic Garden and the Wharf are also worth visits for those who have a bit of extra time to spare. D.C. is always a great place to go thanks to its myriad free attractions, but during the holiday season, it really raises the bar and takes the family draws to a whole other level.”
